Northwest Lansing Healthy Communitities
Initiative (NWLHCI) develops healthy communities
through resident-driven efforts to strengthen individuals, families,
and neighborhoods. Based on resident input, NWLHCI programming focuses
corridor revitalization, food access, free tax preparation, leadership
develoment, community building, community promotion (see www.grandneighborhoods.org),
and access to community resources through grassroots outreach.

Greater Lansing Housing Coalition
provides affordable housing to people of modest menas and helps in
neighborhood revitalization. Since 1995, GLHC has acquired, rehabilitated
(or newly constructed) and sold more than 100 single-family homes
to income-eligible first time home buyers. The Coalition has 220 apartments
and has assisted 185 families in purchasing their first home.

Habitat for Humanity of Lansing
is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and its causes in
the Greater Lansing Area. Founded in 1987, they will complete their
60th house in 2005. HFHL works in neighborhoods and primarily builds
on vacant lots within the City of Lansing, though five homes have
been build in surrounding urban areas. HFHL has two active campus
chapters, MSU Habitat and Grand Ledge High School. HFHL builds in
partnership with 50-75 churches, businesses, and civic organizations
each year with well over 15,000 volunteer hours worked each year.

Local Initiatives Support Corporation
(LISC) channels grants and loans to community
development corporations (CDCs) to develop housing and businesses,
perform essential neighborhood services and assemble whole communities
from the individual energies of residents, entrepreneurs, volunteers
and government agencies. Michigan LISC ensures that resources are
channeled to the organizations and projects where they are needed
and will produce community assets of lasting value: homes and shops,
safe streets and parks, employment programs and duragle institutions
that preserve and enhance the local environment.

Westside Neighborhood Association
(WNA) seeks to address the issues and concerns
of Westside Neighborhood residents; to bring neighbors together to
support, enhance, and maintain the Westside's unique qualities as
an area that values diversity among its residents; to support excellence
in its schools; to improve the quality of life for all residents;
and to celebrate the beauty and diversity of its people, housing,
parks, and byways.
Mayor's Community Government
Response Team (MCGRT) was created by Lansing
City Mayor Tony Benavides in order to embrace and address the challenges
of creating and fostering an atmosphere that will define Lansing neighborhoods
as clean, safe, and family-friendly. The MCGRT's mission is to identify,
establish, and tailor programs and services that will improve the
quality of life and support families in Lansing neighborhoods. Since
its inception in 2003, the MCGRT has partnered with numerous residents,
neighborhood groups, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations,
as well as other agencies to improve Lansing neighborhoods.
