Mission

Develop local comprehensive revitalization plans that focus resources on locally identified ("geographic") target areas to eliminate substandard housing and the conditions which cause it by 2020.

A Vision 2020 Initiative Will:

• Eliminate substandard housing and improve physical conditions in the target area;
• Build a neighborhood/community environment characterized by economic and cultural vitality;
• Create a local market which assures sustainable housing and economic development;
• Develop capacity for effective local governance among neighborhood/community residents.

Guiding Principles:

• Support joint ventures with Habitat Affiliates and Community Based Organizations
• Support determination of local outcomes leading to comprehensive neighborhood/community revitalization
• Support local needs assessment and the development of strategies for sustainable impact

Outcomes:

• Elimination of substandard housing
• Substantial improvement of physical conditions
• Economic and cultural vitality resulting in a positive image for the target area
• Improved marketability sufficient to enable the neighborhood/community to compete for jobs and new residents
• Empowerment of local residents evidenced by increase capacity for effective local governance
• Strengthen neighborhood/community schools
